WAUKEGAN — At least one element of the city's controversial vehicle-seizure ordinance will go under review next month after 4th Ward Ald. A.J. "Tony" Figueroa spoke out Monday against seizing vehicles from drivers whose license has been suspended for non-criminal reasons.
Figueroa told aldermen that if such a motorist is accompanied by another licensed driver, such as a spouse, they should be ticketed but allowed to keep the vehicle with the other driver taking over the wheel.
"I'd like to revisit that one aspect of the ordinance," said Figueroa, adding that he's heard of cases where a driver is unaware that their license has been suspended for such things as failing to take the vehicle to an emissions test.
